HEY, I’M BREE.

THE FRUSTRATING BEGINNING

I wasted way too much money on the wrong gear — and I don’t want you to do the same.

When I started podcasting, I did what most people do: I Googled “best podcast microphone” and fell down a rabbit hole of contradictory advice, affiliate-stuffed listicles, and YouTube videos recommending gear way outside my budget.

I bought the wrong mic. The wrong interface. A wobbly boom arm. Three purchases in, I’d spent over $300 and still sounded like I was recording in a bathroom. It wasn’t a gear problem. It was an information problem.

WHY I BUILT THIS SITE

After a lot of trial, error, and research, I finally got my setup right. People started asking for my advice, so I figured — why not put it all in one place?

  • NO JARGON: I speak human, not manual.
  • NO UPSELLING: I won’t push the most expensive option.
  • NO FLUFF: I skip the specs you don’t actually care about.

PodGearLab is the straightforward, honest guidance I wish I’d had when I was starting out.

HOW I APPROACH GEAR

I’m not an audio engineer in a lab. I’m a podcaster who cares about getting the best sound for the money. Every recommendation is treated like a tip for a friend:

  1. Tested or Obsessively Researched: If I haven’t used it, I’ve dug through every real-world review.
  2. Budget First: What actually makes a difference for your specific environment?
  3. Integrity Over Commission: I use affiliate links to keep the lights on, but I’ll never recommend garbage just to make a buck. I’d rather you buy nothing than buy something I don’t believe in.

A FEW THINGS ABOUT ME

  • Veteran Status: Podcasting since 2019 and have tested more mics than I care to admit.
  • Current Rig: I use an XLR setup now, but I still think USB is the right call for most beginners.
  • Real World: I record from a home office, so I’ve mastered acoustic treatment on a budget.
  • The Mission: I genuinely enjoy helping people cut through the noise.
